My city view of the Pleiades showed me editing isn't everything
A lot of folks in here say you have to heavily edit every astro photo to make it good. I tried taking a picture of the Pleiades cluster from my apartment roof last month. I used a basic camera and a tripod, no fancy software. The raw image came out with some haze from street lights. Instead of editing it heavily, I just adjusted the brightness a bit. Seeing those stars through the glow felt like a real achievement. It reminded me that sometimes the simple shots have their own charm.

Seeing those stars through the glow' is the best part. Who needs fancy software when you have ATMOSPHERE?

That line about atmosphere is exactly it. People keep looking for the perfect app or the newest gadget to make things special. But most of the time, the best stuff comes from the raw, unfiltered moment right in front of you. It's like how a phone video of friends laughing often feels more real than some staged photo shoot. The flaws and the context are what make it matter.

My own shot came out soft, but that gentle haze has its own appeal.

Sometimes that softness is the camera picking up on something you FELT in the air, like the humidity or the quiet. It's not just a visual thing, it's a whole mood the lens caught by accident. Makes the picture more like a memory than just something you saw.
