Showerthought: a kid at the planetarium in Boise said Saturn's rings were 'just flat rocks' and I've been thinking about it for 9 days
I was at the planetarium in Boise two Saturdays ago with my nephew and this kid behind us, maybe 7 years old, looked up at the Saturn slide and said real loud to his mom, 'so it's just flat rocks in a circle?' And his mom goes 'no honey it's ice and dust' and he goes 'same thing.' I laughed at the time but then I pulled up my own Saturn pics from last summer, the ones from my little 6 inch dob, and I started wondering what I was even looking at. My shot just shows a blob with a line through it, but that line is chunks of ice the size of cars all moving together. The kid was kind of right. It's just rocks and ice that happen to make a shape my brain likes. Now every time I stack my frames in the software I think about that 'same thing' comment. Does anyone else ever get hung up on the plain truth of what these photos show instead of how pretty they look?
