Trying to show my friend a nebula shot and he just said 'looks like a blurry cloud'

I spent like 3 hours last night getting a clean shot of the Orion Nebula from my backyard in Phoenix. Showed it to my buddy today and he just shrugged and said 'looks like a blurry cloud' without even asking how I took it. He didn't get that it's light from 1,300 light years away, not just some weather. It's just a bummer when you put in the work and someone doesn't even try to see what's cool about it. Anyone else have a friend who just doesn't get the hobby?

Ugh yeah I've been there. I started showing people my astro shots on my phone instead of a big screen, makes a huge difference. @jake_sullivan it's more about patience than gear honestly just a solid tracker and a basic DSLR gets you there.

What gear did you use for the Orion shot in Phoenix?

Did you even need a telescope for that shot?

Tell me about it, gear talk gets old fast. Just let people enjoy the photo.
