Warning: stacking 40 frames in free software beat my $300 paid stacker on the Orion nebula
Everyone says you need the paid stacking app for clean deep sky shots, but I ran 40 subs of Orion through a free program on my 2016 laptop and the noise dropped way more than with the fancy one. The trick was ditching dark frames and just dithering my mount a few pixels between shots. Anyone else skipped calibration frames entirely and still gotten clean results?
