Why does nobody talk about how much editing is too much editing in astro shots?
Last month I shot the Orion Nebula from my backyard in Boise with just a stock DSLR and a $200 tracker, and I posted two versions online, one straight out of the camera with just a stretch and one with about 6 hours of layering in Photoshop. The raw one got 12 likes and the heavily edited one got over 300, which bugs me because the edited version honestly doesn't look like what my eye saw that night. Some folks say editing is just part of the art and others say it turns into digital painting that misleads new people about what they'll actually see through a scope. Where do you all draw the line between bringing out faint detail and straight up inventing a picture?
