Found out my local coffee shop throws away 30 pounds of beans every week that are past their roast date
I was chatting with the barista at Joe's Brew on Peachtree and he said they toss anything older than 14 days. Some people say fresh is everything, but others argue those beans are still good for another week. Where do you draw the line on freshness?

Thirty pounds a week? That's like throwing away a small dog made of coffee. At my place we drink beans three months past roast and call it "aged". Guess those baristas never learned the magic of a darker drip setting. All that waste just makes me want to start a compost pile in their parking lot and let the pigeons have a party.

Thirty pounds a week is wild, I'd probably trip over my own feet trying to carry that much to the compost bin. I mean, @milesbarnes has a point about the darker drip setting - I've salvaged some pretty sad beans that way myself. Maybe I'm just lazy but I'd rather drink bad coffee than watch good coffee get tossed out.

Yeah, honestly, I used to think saving old beans was dumb too but this kinda changed my mind.
