My landlord swore waiting until spring to fix the AC was fine - he was wrong

Back in July my landlord told me the AC just needed a Freon top-off and to wait until fall for a real fix because it'd be cheaper. By August the unit completely died during a 95 degree heatwave, and the emergency repair cost him $2,800 versus the $400 tune-up he skipped. Who's had a similar situation where you listened to someone's 'good advice' and it backfired hard?

Yeah that's just how it goes when people kick the can down the road instead of fixing things right the first time.

Oh I don't know @victorhernandez, sometimes kicking the can is actually the smart play. Look at how fast technology changes. If you try to build the perfect fix for today's problem, you might waste a ton of time and money on something that's obsolete in six months. Companies patch things just enough to keep running until the real solution comes along. Think about all the old software that got band-aid fixes for Y2K instead of rebuilding everything. Those temporary patches worked fine and saved billions.
