My neighbor said my lawn was too green and it bugged me until I tested the soil
Guy down the street told me I was dumping too much fertilizer on my yard. Said my grass looked fake like a golf course. I was ready to brush him off but I actually grabbed a soil test kit from Ace Hardware for like 15 bucks. Turns out my nitrogen levels were through the roof and I was basically burning the roots. I cut back to half the fertilizer I was using and now the yard looks way healthier after 3 months. Has anyone else had a neighbor call them out on something that turned out to be good advice?

Testing your own soil before changing anything is a solid move most people skip. That neighbor might have saved you from killing your whole lawn without even knowing it lol. Sometimes the unsolicited advice hits different when you actually check the numbers yourself.

...and that's the thing about advice you didn't ask for, right? It's almost always about how you take it. What you did is actually pretty smart - you stopped and checked the facts instead of just getting defensive. That's way harder than it sounds though. I've noticed most people either get their feelings hurt and dig in harder, or they take everything someone says as gospel without questioning it. Both ends of that spectrum are usually wrong. You found that sweet spot where you listened but verified, and that's honestly a skill most folks never really learn.
