Picked the BGE over a traeger last spring
I was dead set on a pellet smoker for months. Then a buddy let me borrow his Green Egg for a weekend. Cooked a 14 pound brisket at 250 for 12 hours straight. Got that bark I could never get with gas. No regrets.

Did you do anything special to prep it? My buddy tried the same thing with his new Kamado and said the temp ran away on him for the first few hours. He ended up with bark like shoe leather but the inside was still good somehow.

The first thing I learned with my Kamado is you gotta let the ceramic soak up heat before you put the meat on. I let mine sit at 225 for a solid 45 minutes with the deflector plate in, otherwise the temp just jumps around like crazy. Your buddy probably threw the pork on too fast.
