TIL posting a simple hello in ATL Local Chat got me 3 new pickleball partners in Decatur
I joined ATL Local Chat about 2 months ago and just kinda lurked at first. Last week I finally posted a short intro saying I live near Decatur and wanted to find people to play pickleball with on weekends. I figured maybe 1 or 2 folks would reply. Instead I got 14 replies in a day, and 3 of them actually turned into real games at McKoy Park. One guy named Marcus brought a spare paddle for me since mine was a cheap starter one. What surprised me most was how fast the chat moved compared to bigger apps where posts just sit there. I learned that this local chat works best when you say exactly what you want instead of just saying hi. Now I check it every morning with my coffee. Has anyone else had good luck finding hobby groups through ATL Local Chat, or is it mostly just people posting about events?
Wait, people actually reply on that thing? I figured ATL Local Chat was just 500 posts about lost dogs and someone's HOA meeting every single day. The fact that you got 14 replies for pickleball and not one person telling you to check the pinned rules is honestly shocking. Marcus bringing a spare paddle is a nice touch though, that's the kind of thing that never happens on the big apps where you're lucky if anyone even reads your post. Sounds like the trick is being super specific instead of dropping a "hey everyone" and hoping for the best. Maybe I've been doing it wrong this whole time by just lurking.
