A handshake at a Buckhead meetup that went differently than expected

About five years ago at a tech mixer, a guy named Mark from a small startup, after a brief chat, just handed me his phone with his contact info already pulled up instead of a business card. He said, 'Cards get lost, but a contact gets saved.' That simple move cut out the whole 'I'll email you' dance. Has anyone else had a small networking habit from someone else stick with them for years?

That "cards get lost" line is pure gold.

It's more than just a polite fiction though. The line actually protects the game's magic by keeping the focus on the story. Admitting a tantrum would break that spell for everyone at the table.

Gold is right. It's the perfect polite fiction that lets everyone save face while we all know exactly what happened. Someone got mad and threw the whole deck across the room. The "lost" cards are probably under the fridge with last year's pizza crust.
