Got burned at the Perimeter Mall meetup last month, now I do this one thing before every event
So I went to that big networking mixer at the Perimeter Mall food court area back in early November, the one a bunch of y'all were posting about. I showed up with my little name tag and a smile, ready to hand out cards. Here's the thing nobody warns you about: I got stuck talking to this one guy for 40 minutes. Forty minutes! He ran a print shop and would not stop talking about paper weights. I missed the whole other side of the room. Later I found out a lady from a logistics company over in Marietta was there, and she was literally looking for someone with my exact job. I wanted to kick myself. So now I set a 10 minute alarm on my phone that buzzes in my pocket, polite excuse, move on. It feels a little rude at first but honestly people do the same thing back to me and nobody cares. How do you all get out of a conversation that's going nowhere without being a jerk?
