I finally switched from business cards to QR codes at in-person events

I used to carry a fat stack of printed cards to every Atlanta meetup, the glossy ones with the foil logo and everything. But after a networking happy hour at Ponce City Market in June, I realized nobody actually kept my card, one guy literally tossed it in the trash right in front of me. So I started using a QR code on my phone that links to a simple vCard and my LinkedIn. The change happened because I tracked my follow-ups, 4 out of 5 people who scanned actually replied within a week, versus maybe 1 out of 10 with paper. Downside is the older crowd at some chamber events looks at me weird when I pull out my phone, they still want that handshake and card ritual. Have any of you made this shift, or do you think paper still wins for certain crowds in Atlanta?

Honestly, do you think the phone thing just makes you look too salesy with the older crowd?
