Just realized I was networking wrong at Atlanta tech meetups
A guy at the Atlanta Tech Village meetup last month told me my elevator pitch sounded like I was reading a script. I was talking too fast and listing tech specs nobody cared about. So I slowed way down, started asking people what they worked on first, then kept it to one sentence about what I do. It's crazy how many more real conversations I've had since... has anyone else found that ditching the pitch actually works better?

Had a buddy who bombed so hard at a meetup he switched to just buying people drinks and it worked way better.

lol that's basically the secret hack of networking right there. My cousin did the same thing at a conference once and ended up getting a job offer from a guy he was just buying beers for. Turns out people remember the person who got them a round way more than the person who gave a bad pitch.
