Saw a HUGE difference in my meetup connections after I changed my tagline

I used to go to Atlanta tech networking events with the same old spiel about being a developer. Nobody cared. Then I switched to saying I build tools that save companies 20 hours a month on data entry. Suddenly at the Buckhead coffee meetup last Tuesday, I had 3 people ask for my card. Anyone else notice a before and after from tweaking how you describe what you do?

Small thing but saying "companies" sounds kind of impersonal, maybe try "teams" or "departments" instead? Makes it feel more human. I noticed when I switched from "I help businesses" to "I help marketing teams" people actually asked follow up questions instead of just nodding. The specificity matters more than the word count honestly.

And that follow up question is the whole difference between a conversation and a pitch. Once someone asks "what kind of marketing teams?" they're already engaged and thinking about how it applies to them. I did the same thing with my own site, went from "I help small businesses" to "I help local restaurants get seen online" and suddenly people started booking calls instead of just saying "oh nice." It's wild how one or two specific words can totally change how someone reacts to what you're saying.

Exactly right. Specific always beats generic in getting people's attention.
