Showerthought: Tried speed networking at a Midtown bar and ended up in a 20 minute debate about the best Marta station
So last week I figured I'd hit up one of those speed networking events at a place off Peachtree. Thought I'd be swapping business cards and maybe picking up a lead or two. Instead, I got stuck with a guy who spent 20 minutes arguing that Five Points is the best station because it's the 'hub of everything'. I told him Decatur has better coffee options and he nearly flipped the table. Walked away with zero new contacts but a strong opinion on train stops. Anyone else ever go to these things and get totally derailed?

Oh my goodness, this is exactly the kind of thing I would end up in. I went to one of these networking things at a little wine bar in Buckhead a while back and got cornered by a lady who insisted that the Midtown station has the best architecture. I just mentioned I liked the new murals at the King Memorial stop and she spent a full ten minutes explaining why I was wrong about public art. I walked out with a headache and no new leads either, so I can definitely relate.

Got stuck at a Dunwoody meetup once where some guy ranted for 20 minutes about why the Braves stadium move was a disaster.

Went to one in Smyrna where a guy spent 15 minutes on why the Cobb transit plan failed.
