Speed networking actually worked for me at a Midtown event last month
I went to this speed networking thing at the Ponce City Market co-working space and was super skeptical... 3 minutes per person felt way too short. But I ended up getting two solid leads on commercial painting projects just by keeping my pitch under 60 seconds and asking a specific question about their biggest pain point. Has anyone else tried the timed format and actually gotten work from it?

Did you prep your pitch before going in or just wing it?

Winged it honestly, which was dumb lol. But I had been working on a similar pitch for weeks at random happy hours so it was kinda in my head already. Saw this one guy during a break at that same event who kept talking about his tile business and I just sat there nodding for 5 minutes straight before he finally asked what I did. Ended up trading cards and he sent me a referral two weeks later for a bathroom remodel. The timed format actually forced me to shut up and listen instead of rambling about my whole life story which is probably the real win here.
