Spent 3 hours tracking down a bad cable at PCM last week
Had a client's network dropping every 15 minutes, figured it was config or interference. Turned out a patch cable in the server room had a bent pin I couldn't even see without a magnifier. Anyone else find the obvious stuff is the hardest to spot?
Read a blog post from a network guy who said he spent two days reconfiguring switches before finding a loose RJ45 clip. Made me think of that. Bent pins are the worst because you don't think to check something that looks fine from the outside. Usually ends up being the one cheap cable you grabbed from the bottom of the box.
