The Atlanta Chamber mixer I went to last month was a total bust

I showed up to the Buckhead Chamber mixer on Peachtree thinking I'd make some solid business connections. But the WiFi went down halfway through and nobody could even swap contact info digitally. I ended up handing out maybe three cards and talking to one guy about his lawn care company the whole night. Has anyone else had a networking event get totally wrecked by tech failure?

YESSS this is such a good point and honestly it connects to a bigger thing Ive been noticing everywhere lately. Like everyone is so obsessed with having the perfect app or the fastest way to connect that we forget the actual human part of building relationships. Its the same with ordering food vs actually talking to a cashier or using self checkout instead of asking someone for help finding something in a store. The tech is supposed to make things easier but it usually just makes it more shallow. Keep that lawn care guys number, he might know someone whos looking for exactly what you offer.

Three business cards at a Chamber mixer in Buckhead isn't bad at all. You probably got more out of that lawn care guy than you think. Real connections happen when you're forced to actually talk to people instead of scanning QR codes all night. I've been to twenty or thirty of these things and the ones with no tech problems are usually the worst because everyone just trades digital info and never follows up. A dead WiFi forced you to actually engage with someone face to face. That lawn care guy could be the one who introduces you to your next big client. You just don't see it because you're mad about the inconvenience.
