TIL that showing up to a random Atlanta tech meetup at a brewery in West Midtown actually landed me 2 real clients
Honestly I always thought networking events here were just people handing out cards and never following up. Back in January I dragged myself to a Thursday night meetup at a brewery off Howell Mill, mostly because a friend bailed and I had nothing else going on. I talked to maybe 4 people, one guy ran a small logistics company and we just chatted about his messy spreadsheets for 20 minutes. Two weeks later he emailed me asking if I could help fix his inventory tracking, and then he referred me to another business owner in Decatur. Ngl I've been to probably 6 of these now and only 2 turned into actual paying work, but that's still 2 more than I ever got from LinkedIn. Has anyone else had luck with a specific meetup group around here, or is it mostly hit or miss for you too?
You chatted with a guy about spreadsheets for 20 minutes and that turned into two clients? That might be the most random networking win I've ever heard.
