Went to the Gwinnett chamber lunch instead of the free one downtown and got 2 real leads
There was a $35 lunch mixer in Duluth last Thursday and the same night a free meetup at a bar in Midtown. I picked the paid one because it had a speaker from a logistics company, and I ended up talking to a guy who runs IT for a warehouse off 85 for 20 minutes. He handed me his card and we have coffee set for next week. The free ones are fun but I usually just end up talking to other people who are also looking for work. So is it worth paying to get in the room with decision makers, or am I just fooling myself that the free events can do the same thing?

Paid events are worth it just for that reason, the free ones are mostly a room full of people hunting for the same jobs. Dropped 40 bucks on a SHRM mixer last year and walked out with one solid contact who actually got me in front of a hiring manager.
