Appreciation post: The guy who tried to buff out a dent with a tennis ball

Last month, a customer rolls into our shop in Austin with a massive crease on his rear quarter panel. He swears he watched a YouTube video where a tennis ball and a hammer fix it. I spent 20 minutes explaining why that only works on plastic bumpers, not steel. Anyone else get customers who watch one video and think they know the trade?

Is it just me or does every fix on YouTube look way too easy?

Oh totally, every fix is like "just clip this wire and twist these two together" and suddenly the lawnmower runs like new... meanwhile I clip one wire and now I've got sparks flying and a smoke cloud that looks like a small engine funeral. The missing step is always "then spend 45 minutes finding the right size nut you dropped in the grass" or "be prepared to break three cheap plastic clips before you figure out the trick." And don't get me started on those videos where they use some random tool I've never seen before like it's common household equipment... "oh just grab your oscillating multi-tool real quick" like who has that just lying around next to the toaster.
