Finally got the color match right on a 2018 Toyota silver metallic

I have been fighting with this silver pearl for months on customer cars. Last Tuesday at the shop I decided to slow down and really study the factory chip under different lighting before mixing. Turns out I was adding too much blue toner every single time. Man it felt good when the customer walked in, looked at the repair, and just nodded without saying a word. Anybody else have a paint code that gave them fits for way too long?

Spent three days fixing a dent on a beige minivan once, owner picked it up and asked if I could make it shinier.

I saw a thread about this on a mechanic forum the other day where a guy said customers ask for "that showroom finish" on 15 year old cars with peeling clear coat. People really expect miracles for the price of a basic detail. That beige minivan thing reminds me of my cousin who worked at a body shop, he had someone complain about a scratch that was there before they even started working on the car. Customers just don't get that shiny doesn't fix everything.

Three weeks ago I spent a solid afternoon buffing out a scratch on a silver sedan and the guy says "can you just make the passenger door match the driver door color better?" Like I have a magic paint wand or something. Honestly, some people think detailing is basically wizardry where you wave a cloth and everything comes out perfect.
