Had a fender repair from a chain shop last week, but my buddy at a small outfit says they cut corners
The chain shop fixed it in 2 days for $800, but my buddy says they used filler instead of pulling the metal right. Who's had better luck with independent guys versus the big chains?

Honestly I gotta disagree with your buddy here. Chains like Maaco or whatever have a system down, they do this stuff all day every day. Two days for $800 sounds like they pulled that quarter panel pretty clean, not just slathered filler on it. I've seen indie guys take a week and still leave waves in the metal, so maybe the big shop just has better tools for the job.

Wait, $800 for two days and a quarter panel pull? That's actually less than I paid for a similar job at a chain near me.

Yeah @abby_fisher I feel you on that... honestly it's kinda hit or miss no matter where you go. I had a chain shop do my rear bumper last year and it's still holding up fine, no issues.
