The painter at my shop in Boise showed me the dollar bill trick for checking panel gaps
Back in March I was blocking out a rear quarter on a 2016 Civic and could not get the gap to the trunk lid looking right, kept going back and forth with the gap tool and getting nowhere. The painter at our shop in Boise walked over, pulled a dollar bill out of his pocket, and slid it along the seam to show me where it was grabbing. Turns out the bill is about 6 thousandths thick, so if it drags the whole way you're close, and if it slides free you've got a low spot. I've used that trick on maybe 15 cars since then and it beats my old gap tool for quick checks. He also said he learned it from a guy at a dealership in the 80s, so it's been around. Any of you use paper or a feeler gauge for this, or am I late to the party?
