Used to chase every blend on a panel, now I tape the whole thing and pray
Six months ago I would feather out every single blend on a quarter panel to save material and time, and I thought I was smart doing it. Then a 2018 Silverado came in with that tri coat white and my blend looked like a weather map, customer brought it back twice. Now I just clear the whole panel, blow through the extra 4 or 5 ounces of base and call it done at the booth. Sure it costs me maybe $30 more a job but I have not had a color match complaint since I made the change in March. The metallic lay down is way more even too when you are not fighting a featheredge halfway across the door. Just make sure your booth temp is dialed in before you spray a full panel or you will get striping, learned that one the hard way. Anyone else spray full panels instead of blending or am I just burning money for no reason here?
