Watched a guy at a shop in Phoenix fix a quarter panel with no filler

Stopped in at my buddy's shop in Phoenix last month. Some old timer was working on a Chevelle. He pulled the whole quarter with a slide hammer and torch, no body filler at all. I always used filler to smooth things out. Watched him for 20 minutes. Metal was straight when he was done. Made me rethink how much filler I've been using. Anyone else seen this done?

Dang that's some old school work right there. I've seen a few guys do it on older cars where the metal is thick enough to work without warping too bad. You gotta be real careful with that slide hammer though, one wrong move and you stretch the metal worse than before.

You had any luck with a stud welder instead, @caleb_bell5?

I used a stud welder on a 72 Dart and it worked fine on the thicker panels like the quarter panels. Just kept the settings low and took my time between each pull.
