Update: I used to think the old 'tap it with a hammer' fix for a stuck caliper slide was fine, but a tech from a Chicago shop told me something that changed my mind.

Man, I learned that the hard way. Now I just take the extra five minutes to clean and lube the slide pins right.

Watched a buddy ignore that advice and it cost him a rotor. Kim_mason55 is right, you just kick the can down the road. Now he spends the five minutes too.

Yeah, that "tap it with a hammer" line is classic. I used to swear by it too, just a couple good whacks and call it a day. Hearing a pro from a real shop say it's wrong makes you stop and think. Makes sense though, you're probably just bending stuff or hiding the real problem for a little while. Gotta respect when someone with real experience sets you straight.
