Warning: I chose not to replace a water pump on a 2011 Civic with 140k and it came back 3 weeks later
Everyone here says do the pump with the timing belt job, no debate. I had a 2011 Civic in the bay with 140,000 miles and the customer only wanted the belt because money was tight. I went against the usual rule and skipped the pump. Three weeks later it came back on a tow truck, leaking from the weep hole, and the customer was out another $600 in labor on top of the belt job. I ate the labor the second time because I felt bad about it. Now I get why the old guys say you do both while you're already in there. Has anyone had one actually make it to 200k after reusing the original pump?

Did you actually see the pump fail or did the customer just say it did? Not saying you got played, but a weep hole leak three weeks later on a pump that wasn't touched is a weird coincidence, and I've seen guys get blamed for stuff that was already going bad. Plenty of these pumps do run past 200k if the coolant's been kept up, so I'm not sold that skipping it is automatic doom.
