Unpopular opinion: I went standalone ECU over a piggyback on my 240SX and I'm still not sure I picked right
Two summers ago I had to pick between a $600 piggyback and a $1,400 standalone for my SR20 swap, and I went standalone because a guy at a meet in Sacramento swore a piggyback would never handle my bigger injectors. It ran great on the dyno but the cold starts in January were rough and I spent three weekends reworking my idle map before it stopped stalling at stoplights. The piggyback would have been plug and play and done in an afternoon, but I'd have been capped on boost and timing. So which way do you lean on a mild build, save the money and stay simple or eat the cost for full control? I want to hear from people who actually ran both.
