Heard a line guy at KORD say most radios are just mounted wrong
He was talking about how a coworker's comms kept cutting out because the tray wasn't grounded to the airframe right. Has anyone else seen bad grounding cause weird issues that get blamed on the radio itself?

I've seen three shops chase a garbled transmit for two weeks before someone found the mounting screws had paint under them. Bad ground gives you the exact same symptoms as a dying final amp.

Watched a guy swap three radios once before realizing his new mount was powder coated.

Read somewhere that a lot of mobile installs in the 80s and 90s used to scrape paint off the mounting holes but then guys got lazy with new vehicles. Guess they figured factory paint was thin enough but over time it can corrode or crack. I've had a buddy swear by using a star washer to bite through the paint and save the headache.
