I finally got the old Collins VHF-422A in that Cessna 172 to stop squawking 1200
Spent a whole Tuesday chasing a ghost signal that turned out to be a corroded coax connector behind the panel. Has anyone else had a nav/com unit act up from just a bad ground strap?

Tell me about it, those old birds love to throw a fit over the smallest things.

Chasing a ghost signal for a whole Tuesday sounds about right. Those old Collins units can be real drama queens over a bad ground.

My old Archer’s nav died from a single frayed ground wire under the seat.

That ground wire was probably doing you a favor, those older radios needed an excuse to retire.
