Old timer at the avionics bench changed my mind about connector cleaning

Guy named Frank at the shop near DFW airport spent 20 minutes showing me how he uses isopropyl alcohol and a stiff brush on cannon plugs instead of that spray crap, said he hasn't had a single intermittent fault in 15 years. Has anyone else sworn off contact cleaner after trying this method?

Frank showed me that trick last year at Oshkosh, swapped out a whole spray can for a bottle of rubbing alcohol from Walmart. My cannon plugs have never been cleaner, but now my bench smells like a doctor's office. Still cheaper than that fancy CRC stuff though.

and yeah, rubbing alcohol has been my go-to for years now, actually. a buddy of mine, marco, he tried the whole Walmart rubbing alcohol trick after i mentioned it to him. he was skeptical at first cause he's always been a CRC guy, but the first time he used it on his old piper's connectors he said it was like night and day. he told me the only downside is the smell too, but honestly the way he described it i'd take a doctor's office over paying $15 a can any day. @the_john you're spot on about Oshkosh, marco actually picked up the same tip from some old timer there a few years back, swore by it ever since.
