One look at the wiring diagram saved me a 2-day headache in Tulsa

Last month I was tracing a nav light fault on a Cessna 172 and this old timer mechanic, Dave, walked over and just pointed at the schematic. He said, 'You're chasing the breaker, but the real issue is the ground loop at the wing root.' I blew him off for an hour until I finally checked, and sure enough, a corroded connector was feeding back through the strobe power supply. That one conversation taught me more about reading prints than any manual I've flipped through. Has anyone else had a senior guy save their ass with a single observation like that?

That ground loop trick from the old A&P forum is GOLD, @charlieh74. Dave's one line saved me from chasing my tail for days too. The old timers just SEE the prints differently, like they know the hidden paths the electricity takes. Young guys like us stare at the obvious lines, but these guys picture the whole bird in 3D. I've started asking every senior mechanic I meet for their one weird trick, and it never fails. That kind of practical knowledge beats any manual you'll ever buy.
