Shoutout to the $28 pin crimper I picked over the $300 kit
Needed to re-pin a couple of cannon plugs on a King Air last month and went with the cheap ratcheting crimper instead of the full Daniels set. Three weeks in and every pin pulls good on the tester, but has anyone here been burned by a budget crimper after the honeymoon phase?
Ran into the same thing with cheap tools at home too. Bought a $40 angle grinder to cut some fence posts, worked great for a month, then it let go halfway through a job and I had to run to the store. The way I see it, cheap gear is fine until it isn't, and you never know when that day comes. The pins pulling good on the tester now is a solid sign, but keep an eye on it after a few more planes. Sometimes the budget stuff lasts forever and sometimes it quits when you least need it to.
