That week where every wire harness I built passed first try
Last Wednesday was wild - I cranked out 4 complete harnesses for a Cessna 172 and every single one passed continuity and megger tests on the first go. Usually I'm chasing at least one cold solder joint or mis-pin, so I'm still trying to figure out what I did different. Any of you guys ever have a streak like that and accidentally replicate it?

On those harnesses that pass first try I always stop and try to remember exactly what I did. For me it usually comes down to being super consistent with my crimp tool and not rushing the pin insertion. Maybe you double checked the pin positions before crimping or pulled a little harder on each wire to seat it right. One thing that helped me was laying out all the pins in order on the bench and going one by one instead of jumping around.

That bit about "not rushing the pin insertion" really hit me. I had a harness last month where I was so careful with everything else but I yanked the wire while seating a pin and must have pulled it a tiny bit loose. It passed continuity but failed the pull test later. Now I always give each pin a gentle tug after I seat it just to be sure. The funny thing is I used to think I was saving time by rushing through that part. Turns out I was just creating more work for myself when I had to redo it.
