Why nobody mentions how much static builds up on old Learjet panels
I was working a 1984 Lear 35 last Thursday up at the hangar in Teterboro. Swapped out a VOR receiver and when I touched the connector, I got a shock that made me drop my screwdriver. That thing must have had 50 volts sitting there waiting for me. Has anyone else run into this with older airframes or am I just unlucky?

Got zapped by a Falcon 10 panel last month. Same shock treatment.

The grounding strap trick actually helped me a ton. Just clipped it on before touching anything and it stopped the random zaps completely lol.

Aw man, that's rough! Getting zapped by a big panel like that is no joke. I've had my share of shocks messing with old wiring in houses and it always makes me jumpy for the rest of the day. Glad the strap trick worked for you too, it's such a simple fix but makes a world of difference. Nothing worse than that random zap when you least expect it.
