A ranger in the Catskills asked me one question about my route plan and it stung
I was at the trailhead near Slide Mountain in the Catskills two weeks ago and a ranger glanced at my map and asked what my bailout plan was if the weather turned on the ridge. I just stared at him because my whole plan was basically keep going. He told me most people who get in trouble up there never picked a spot to turn around, they just pushed on. Now I'm redoing my route for a 3 day loop and marking exit points ahead of time. How do you all pick bailout spots when the trail is mostly ridgeline with no side trails?
