Bought a $320 ultralight tent, slept in a puddle anyway

Last fall I splurged on that fancy dyneema shelter everyone raves about, figured it was the end of my weight problems. First night out on the Kettle Valley Trail, the site looked flat but had a slight bowl hidden under the pine needles. By 2am my sleeping pad was floating and I had to bail to the picnic shelter. The tent itself was fine, I just skipped reading the reviews about ground slope and didn't bring a small trowel to level the pad. Anyone else ditch the fancy gear and go back to carrying a $20 footprint for this exact reason?
