Guy on the AT told me my base weight was "a personal choice" and then spent 20 minutes listing everything wrong with it
Ran into him at the shelter near Mount Collins in the Smokies last month, and he asked to see my pack while I was filtering water. I said sure, and he pulled out every item one by one, naming the ounces out loud like he was reading a receipt. Kept saying "no judgment, hike your own hike" between pointing out my stove, my food bag, and my extra socks. I just wanted to eat my noodles and go to sleep. Do people actually enjoy this, or is the shelter just where all the gear accountants live now?
