Hit 500 miles on the PCT this year and it totally changed my mind about section hiking

Doesn't it feel weird how time passes differently when you're moving slow through the woods vs. stuck in traffic? I spent three days driving across Nevada once and only remember gas stations, but I can still picture every bend in the trail from a single afternoon hike.

Started thinking about this same thing with my commute to work... the little chunks add up way more than people give them credit for. Like, I used to hate driving 20 minutes each way, thinking it was a waste. But then I realized those little drives let me listen to entire albums or catch up on podcasts I'd never get to otherwise. It's kinda like section hiking in a way, you're not doing the whole thing at once but you're still moving forward bit by bit. Those 500 miles probably felt like nothing when you were in the middle of them, but looking back it's a huge chunk of trail.

That commute comparison hits hard, makes you realize distance is just time rearranged.
