Maps I downloaded last week saved my butt on the Lost Coast

I did the northern section from Mattole Beach to Shelter Cove on Tuesday and my phone had zero service the whole time, but I had offline topo maps on the Avenza app plus paper backups. Got hit with a surprise storm around the 12 mile mark and the GPS on my watch was dead since I forgot to charge it, but the paper map route helped me find the cutoff trail before dark. Anyone else carry both digital and paper when they hit remote sections, or is that just me being extra?

Whoa, wait, you forgot to charge your watch AND still managed to find the cutoff before dark with just paper? That's wild, dude. I'd have been fully panicking at the 12 mile mark, especially with a storm rolling in. I usually carry both too, but honestly my paper map is just a backup for when my phone dies, I've never had to actually use it in a real emergency like that. Respect, that's some serious old school navigation skills right there, lol.
