Shoutout to the Eagle Rock Loop in Arkansas

I had to pick between doing the full 26-mile loop clockwise or counter-clockwise last fall, and I went clockwise to tackle the tougher climbs first thing in the morning. It worked out great because I got the hardest part done with fresh legs and saved the river crossings for the afternoon when it was warmer. Anyone have a strong preference for which way they hike that loop?

Totally agree, clockwise is the only way to go. Did the same thing and those morning climbs felt way easier.

How many river crossings are there on the full loop, and did you have to change your shoes for them? I've heard some spots can get pretty deep.

Depends on the season honestly, I counted seven on my last trip but some were barely a trickle. Never changed shoes, just wore trail runners that dry fast. The deepest one only came up to my knees in late spring. Going barefoot or switching shoes seems like more trouble than it's worth to me.
