Why does nobody talk about how bad the water situation is on the High Sierra Trail?
My buddy swore we only needed 1 liter per 5 miles and I ran out at mile 12 near Kern River, had to hike down a sketchy cliff to refill.

Was the creek at the 12 mile mark actually flowing or just a puddle? Trying to figure out if I should plan for a dry stretch or just bring extra capacity.

The thing about that creek is it depends on how much rain we got in the last week, @paulnguyen. I was there three days after a storm and it was flowing good, but by day five it was basically mud. Check the local radar for the past week before you go, that'll tell you more than any trail report.

That creek at mile 12 was barely a trickle when I went through last weekend. Definitely not reliable enough to count on for filling up, so bring extra capacity or treat it like a dry stretch.
