Am I the only one who switched from grass to mulch beds and now misses mowing?
When we bought this place in 2019 the whole yard was fescue and I cut it every Saturday morning for about 45 minutes. Two summers back the water bill hit $180 a month and half the lawn went brown anyway, so I ripped out the back strip and put in mulch beds with native plants. The beds look decent now and the bill dropped to around $70, but some weeks I honestly miss the mindless push mower loop. Grass gave me an easy win and a clear weekend job, beds give me weeds I pull by hand and a yard that looks messy for weeks at a time. My neighbor Darryl says mulch is the only sane choice out here in the heat, but my brother in law swears a mowed lawn beats any bed for kids to play on. Which way would you go if you were starting over with a hot, dry yard and about $300 to spend?
