DAE count their backyard birds? Just hit 27 species in my little Cleveland yard
Put up one cheap feeder and a bird bath two springs ago, and my list from this tiny lot in Cleveland just hit 27 species, with a rose breasted grosbeak stopping by Tuesday. The weird part is the number I really watch now is 4, the minutes it takes my coffee to go cold while I stand there staring at the feeder instead of going inside. So what is on your list, and did you do anything special to pull in the shy ones?
27 species on a city lot is no joke, so you must actually be keeping records somewhere. Do you track them by date and weather or just keep a running list on the fridge, because that changes what you can even say about your yard. Also curious what the grosbeak showed up for, since those guys usually blow through in a day or two and I never get them on anything but sunflower. And what do you think it was that flipped the switch for the shy ones, the water, the feeder placement, or just time letting the yard sit there and get boring enough to trust.
