Had to choose between a pergola kit or building from scratch
I spent about 3 weeks going back and forth on this for my backyard in Phoenix. The pergola kit was $1,200 and promised a weekend install, but I ended up building from scratch with lumber from Home Depot for around $600. Honestly, I underestimated how much time it would take (like 4 weekends instead of 1) and had to re-cut two beams after messing up the angle. The look is way more custom though, and it fits my yard's dimensions perfectly. Has anyone else regretted going the kit route instead of DIY?

Kit saves your sanity and weekends, worth the extra cash.

Might as well hire a nanny for all the money you're spending.

$120 a week for a cleaner changed my life, @faith27. No joke. I was spending every Saturday scrubbing bathrooms and mopping floors, now I actually get to relax. Worth every penny not to fight about chores anymore.
