I finally stopped mowing my lawn and I'm not going back

I've let my backyard grass grow out for the past month, and honestly, it looks way more interesting with wildflowers popping up. My neighbors keep giving me looks, but I think a natural lawn supports bees and other bugs better. I'm saving time and money on water and gas for the mower. Has anyone else tried this, or am I just crazy for ditching the mower?

My cousin in Florida tried a natural lawn last year. He ended up with a snake problem in his backyard that scared his kids. Tall grass can hide ticks and rats, which isn't great for pets or people. I agree wildflowers help bees, but maybe just set aside a small patch instead. Letting the whole yard go wild can really bother neighbors and lower home values for everyone.

Exactly what happened to my buddy's place. His yard turned into a rat hotel and the neighbors were pissed. He had to mow it all down after a month.

Those neighbor looks had me worried, but @the_ray changed my mind.

Lower home values for everyone" feels like a stretch. Most people don't base their house price on one messy yard next door. It might annoy some folks, but calling it a neighborhood crisis seems over the top.
