My 8 year old birdbath cracked after the freeze last week and the fix surprised me
So I've got this concrete birdbath in the corner of my yard near the fence, been there since we moved into this house in Toledo 8 years ago, and last week after that hard freeze I went out back with my coffee and saw a big crack running right down the side of the bowl. Water was everywhere, maybe 2 gallons soaked into the mulch. I almost hauled the whole thing to the curb but my neighbor Ray came over and said try this stuff called hydraulic cement, comes in a little tub for like 12 bucks at the hardware store on Sylvania Ave. I figured it was a waste but I dried the crack out with a hair dryer for about 20 minutes, pushed the cement in with a plastic knife, and let it sit two days. Filled it back up Saturday morning and it's been holding water ever since, even had a robin splashing around in it yesterday. My question is has anyone tried this on a bigger crack or is there a point where you just give up and pour a new one? Also do you seal the whole thing after or just leave it alone?
