My brother-in-law insisted I needed to water my new St. Augustine sod for 45 minutes every single day for two weeks.
I did that and nearly drowned the roots, but cutting back to 20 minutes every other day after the first week saved the whole lawn and proved him wrong.

But what if your brother-in-law was right?

My neighbor's basil died from overwatering, so @hugo_green66 has a point.

Totally wreck someone else's setup" is the key part. How do you even figure out what's actually wrecking it versus what just looks wrong?

Remember my uncle swore by watering his tomatoes every morning without fail. Ended up with all this leafy growth but like three actual tomatoes. My neighbor told him to cut back and let the soil dry out a bit between waterings, totally changed the game. Plants are weird like that, what works for one person can totally wreck someone else's setup.
